Wychwood Community is Big on Amenities

You might think that the tranquility of Wychwood comes at the cost of convenience. However, as with many Midtown Toronto neighbourhoods, you’ve got bustling shopping and dining districts all around that provide a wealth of fun things to do.

The vibrant St. Clair West is just one example. You can walk there in just a few minutes. It’s like coming out of the woods into a dynamic shopping and dining bonanza. Countless restaurants offer every flavour imaginable along the western strip. In between delicious meals, you’ll also find a unique mix of boutiques and independent shops here.

St. Clair West is also the site of the annual Salsa on St. Clair Festival, a huge celebration of Latin American food, music, and culture. Most attendees will have to brave the traffic or public transit to participate. As a Wychwood community resident, you can wander over at your leisure and take in the festivities without stress.

The Wychwood Barns

If you move to Wychwood, the Artscape Wychwood Barns are one of the first highlights you’ll want to check out. These historic buildings once functioned as repair facilities for TTC streetcars before being decommissioned in 1978. After several years of vacancy followed by redevelopment, this vibrant hub of arts and culture opened to the public in 2008.

Today, the Wychwood Barns function as live and work studios for some of Toronto’s local artists. Often, you can see them at work as they bring their masterpieces to life during various shows and festivals.

The Wychwood Barns Farmers’ Market is also located here, where you can find quality produce and prepared foods to make mealtime a pleasure. A public park boasts a playground and off-leash dog area, which makes Wychwood a fun and engaging place for everyone.

One of the barns is now the Wychwood Theatre. Soaring, 20-foot ceilings and modern lighting make this a stunning venue for local concerts and live productions.

Before or after the show, why not grab a bite at Wychwood Pub? Happy Hour runs from 4 to 6 p.m., and the pub is open for late-night drinks right up until 2:00 a.m. Alternatively, you could meet up and challenge some friends to a range of board games.

If you want to know what’s happening next at the Wychwood Barns, you can check out their calendar of events.
