History of Davisville Village

Like so many Midtown Toronto neighbourhoods, Davisville Village revolves around its people. It’s named after John Davis, the co-founder of Davisville Public School, who first arrived in Canada in 1840.

This stretch of land, once known as the Davisville Glebe, remained underdeveloped compared to the rest of the city. That is until John Davis sold the land to Dovercourt Land and Building Company in 1911. The transformation into one of Midtown’s most sought-after neighbourhoods began, and many of those early homes still stand to this day.
