Allenby

If you look up “family family” in the dictionary, we’re pretty sure it will come up with Allenby. We jest, of course, but there’s no denying the appeal of this safe, scenic, and upscale neighbourhood for families of all ages. The community practically revolves around Allenby Junior Public School, one of the highest-rated schools in all of Toronto.

Thanks to its proximity to the Beltline Trail, Allenby is as noted for its gorgeous parks and green spaces as its quality of education. And let’s not forget the incredible conveniences and outstanding shopping and dining experiences that await along bustling Eglinton Avenue West.

Allenby homes tend to be stately and spacious, often featuring Tudor-style architecture. That said, a wide mix of options makes the neighbourhood accessible to many others who value a peaceful and elevated lifestyle.

Chaplin Estates

Right from its inception, Chaplin Estates has earned a reputation as a high-end neighbourhood. Architectural guidelines stated that zero semi-detached homes were allowed, and stucco exteriors could cover no more than half the house. If you love your privacy and a clean, classy aesthetic, Chaplin Estates could be your new neighbourhood.

The upscale vibe goes well beyond the house itself. You’ll be within an easy walk of the vibrant shopping districts along Eglinton Avenue West and Yonge Street. Families are in the catchment area of some of Toronto’s top public elementary and secondary schools, including Brown Junior Public School, Deer Park Junior and Senior Public School, and North Toronto Collegiate Institute.

If you want to stay active, the North Toronto Community Centre is sure to become a frequent family destination. Just think – an indoor pool, gymnasium, and an indoor walking track to keep you busy during the colder months. In the summer, you can get outside and enjoy baseball, tennis, or just relaxing by the playground and splash pad as the kids run and play. The Beltline Trail, one of Toronto’s most spectacular natural wonders, is also nearby, where you can spend hours hiking or cycling through Midtown’s stunning neighbourhoods.

Wychwood

Classy and elegant, the rolling hills and wide open spaces of Wychwood lend an aristocratic English ambiance right in the heart of Midtown Toronto. It may feel tucked away, but don’t be fooled. You and your family will enjoy almost immediate access to all of Toronto’s best amenities, including top restaurants and fantastic shopping.

The south end of this ultra-private community is a scenic wooded area that leads to Taddle Pond. When it gets cold enough, the pond transforms into a skating rink for families to enjoy. Needless to say, this is a favourite for many in the community! In the summer, you can always take in a game of tennis at the nearby court. Hillcrest Community Centre also provides indoor aquatics and a variety of fitness activities.

Many of Wychwood’s homes are designated heritage properties, some of which were built as far back as the late 1800s! Many of these classic residences were designed by renowned architect Eden Smith, who primarily favoured the English Arts and Crafts style. An exclusive luxury neighbourhood with real estate values to match, Wychwood is home to some of Toronto’s most prominent residents.

Wilson Heights

A quiet neighbourhood ideal for families, Wilson Heights is also known as Clanton Park or Dublin Heights. Bordered by Bathurst St, the 401, Allen Road and Sheppard Ave West, this community boasts numerous parks and green spaces, as well as access to two nearby hospitals.

For a tight-knight neighbourhood, Wilson Heights offers a robust range of fun activities and is especially appealing for sports lovers. One example is Herbert H. Carnegie Centennial Centre, where it’s all about the ice. You can enjoy many thrilling hockey games and leisure skates at this popular arena, which lets you bond with your family during those chilly winter afternoons. In the summer, the rink transforms into a dry pad for ball hockey and lacrosse.

A varied housing mix suits a wide range of budgets. You’ll find everything from older, modest-sized bungalows, townhouses, split-level and semi-detached homes to gorgeous custom builds and contemporary styles. Rental apartments are also available on the outer borders of the neighbourhood.

Numerous schools in the area provide excellent options for children of all ages. Public schools include John Polanyi Collegiate Institute, Faywood Arts-Based Curriculum School, and Dublin Heights Elementary and Middle School. Private and religious alternatives are also readily available at St. Robert Catholic School, Yeshivat Or Chaim School, and The Toronto Heschel School.

No matter where you go in Midtown, your children will have access to highly-rated schools. Get more details in the posts below:

Oakwood-Vaughan

If you’re new to Midtown Toronto, Oakwood-Vaughan might be your ticket to the community. A number of bungalows, townhouses, and semi-detached homes make it one of the most accessible neighbourhoods for first-time buyers. Make no mistake, however, Oakwood-Vaughan still offers its share of higher-end houses with plenty of square footage for the growing family.

You’ll also find a fun and elevated lifestyle, with easy access to the shopping district along Eglinton West and Arlington Avenue. Though it is one of the more bustling residential areas, an abundance of parks and green spaces adds a touch of serenity. If you’re looking for a safe place to enjoy the great outdoors, head on over to Humewood Park, Glen Cedar, or Laughlin Park, to name a few. All are peaceful and scenic, with epic playgrounds where little ones can get their jitterbugs out.

Fun fact: Oakwood-Vaughan is officially an arts district, with many residents being employed in the arts or recreation fields. The Oakwood Village Library and Arts Centre is there to help budding artists develop their skills and explore their passions.

Cedarvale

Cedarvale may be close to the busy downtown core, but its tranquil setting makes it feel world’s away from the noise and crowds of the city. Nestled along the Cedarvale Ravine, this picturesque neighbourhood is revered for its lush greenery and parks. Cedarvale Park brings the community together with activities like tennis and baseball in the warmer weather, ice skating in the winter, and scenic walking paths all year long. A playground and splash pads keep the youngest residents busy, and even furry family members can join in your outing thanks to an expansive leash-free zone.

Cedarvale real estate offers something for nearly every budget. Though well known as a high-end neighbourhood with awe-inspiring homes overlooking the ravine, a mix of smaller houses makes it relatively accessible for first-time buyers and younger families.

Davisville Village

Like Cedarvale, Davisville Village also offers an enviable combination of glamour and tranquility. Close proximity to the Mount Pleasant shopping district means having access to all of the conveniences of the big city, while stunning green spaces such as Davisville Park and the Kay Gardner Beltline Park Trail provide endless outdoor recreation.

Midtown Toronto is known for its premium real estate and beautiful, upscale houses, and Davisville Village is no exception. However, it remains one of the few Midtown Toronto neighbourhoods accessible for buyers starting out on the property ladder. Housing options range from starter condos and bungalows to majestic, historic homes from the 1800s.

A high population of renters also draws a lot of investors to the area, which is a boon to Yonge-Eglinton’s economic development. Pre-construction condos provide opportunities for future-minded buyers, and many existing buildings offer world-class amenities such as rooftop patios, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, and party rooms.
