When on the hunt for a new home, the right neighbourhood is one of the most critical decisions. Even if you love everything about the house itself, an ideal location matters even more.

You could compare choosing a Midtown Toronto neighbourhood with selecting an ice cream flavour. This is one situation when there is no wrong or bad choice. Every option is incredible, and it’s just a matter of narrowing it down to the best of the best for your preferences.

Today, we’ll highlight the similarities and differences between two equally fabulous neighbourhoods. Should you put down roots in the beautiful and peaceful Wychwood neighbourhood, or the exciting and trendy Annex? Let’s dive in!

Thinking about buying a house in Toronto and wondering where to start? Here’s The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need to Toronto Real Estate.

The Annex Location and Lifestyle

Technically, The Annex is located in downtown Toronto. However, it’s so safe, so scenic, and peaceful while at the same time full of energy and excitement that we have officially made it an honorary Midtown neighbourhood.

The grand tour begins with the main campus of The University of Toronto. You do not have to be a student to appreciate the proximity of one of North America’s most highly rated universities.

Sprawling, scenic fields and gardens are the backdrop to gorgeous historic buildings. Even though you’re right in the downtown core of a booming metropolis, you’re still surrounded by picturesque beauty. At the same time, a youthful energy fills the air, thanks to a high concentration of post-secondary students.

The Annex: A Creative and Welcoming Atmosphere

The Annex is known for everything from its creative art scene to incomparable shopping to its exciting, almost electric nightlife. It really is an environment that residents of all ages can appreciate.

Move over, traditional big-box stores and fancy, overpriced boutiques! The Annex is all about variety, with a mix of independent shops and vintage stores where you never know what treasure you might find. The eclectic shopping scene is perfectly complemented by diverse dining experiences. Trendy coffee shops, pubs (often with live music), upscale, fine dining restaurants, casual eateries, and flavours from around the world await.

Homes in The Annex

The housing options in The Annex are as unique and fascinating as everything else about the neighbourhood. Old majestic homes, originally constructed for Toronto’s wealthiest, were redesigned into student residences.

As the area continued to evolve, many of these buildings have been reconverted back into single-family homes. There isn’t much not to love about The Annex. When living here, you get natural beauty, a thrilling environment, and all of the conveniences of downtown practically at your doorstep.

Wychwood, Toronto Real Estate and Lifestyle

We’ve toured the homes, and we haven’t just seen the photos, we’ve taken them. That’s why it has never been a secret to us that Wychwood is one of the nicest areas in Toronto.

Still, we never fully appreciated what it was like to live there until our own Bobby Pasternak moved to the area with his family. Now, there isn’t a doubt in anyone’s mind that Wychwood is the perfect place to be for families, professionals, retirees, or anyone who wants a peaceful lifestyle without ever missing out on the fun.

Wychwood Barns and the Wychwood Farmer’s Market might get all the glory in this neighbourhood, and for great reasons. However, the benefits of living here are practically endless!

There are way too many great things to say about Wychwood and Midtown to squeeze them all into a single blog post. Fortunately, you can get even more details in the posts below:

Things to Do in and Near Wychwood, Toronto

Life in Wychwood is full of adventures. Here are just a few highlights to look forward to!

Gaining Some Culture

Venues like the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) can keep the kids away from their screens and entertained for an entire afternoon. Admission is also free on the third Tuesday of every month (4 to 8:30 p.m). Does it get any better than that? Don’t tell your child, but they’re about to learn something while they’re being fascinated by the latest exhibit.

Fabulous Dining

There’s always something new and irresistible on the menu at local restaurants like Brasserie Côte. When you’re in the mood for some comfort food, Fat Pasha is a local gem for Middle Eastern and European Jewish favourites.

Looking for something a little quicker, more casual, but no less delectable? Grab a gourmet bagel at Schmaltz Appetizing or a sandwich at Tiny Market Co.

Coffee and treat lovers will feel more than welcome in Wychwood, thanks to local hot spots like First & Last, L’Espresso Bar Mercurio, and Yellow Flower.

Staying Active

Afterwards, you might want to burn off some of those indulgences. Once again, you’re in the right place, thanks to trendy fitness studios like Reach Personal Training. Alternatively, head to F45, which is technically in The Annex, but still less than five minutes away.

Exploring Nature

There is never a wrong time of the year to fall in love with nature in Wychwood. At Christie Pitts Park, you can get your heart pumping during a soccer or basketball game. After the first snowfall, grab your toboggan. The three hills at the adjacent Bickford Park are among the best city-approved spots.

Living in Wychwood, you get natural beauty, a fun environment, and wait, it sounds like we are repeating ourselves from our description of The Annex! That’s the thing about our top Toronto locations. They’re all fabulous and incredible.

The Annex or Wychwood? No one said the decision would be easy, but you can’t go wrong whichever path you choose. Wherever you settle, you are sure to love!
